ATTORNEY GENERAL RAOUL CHARGES WASHINGTON COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL COACH WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT

June 30, 2026

Chicago — Attorney General Kwame Raoul charged a Nashville, Illinois man with criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Raoul’s office charged Chad Malawy, 54, in Washington County Circuit Court with one count of Class 1 felony criminal sexual assault, punishable by up to 15 years in prison, and one count of Class 1 felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse, punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Malawy was also charged with two Class A misdemeanor counts of solicitation to obstruct justice, and two Class A misdemeanor counts of attempted obstruction of justice. Sentences are ultimately determined by the court. Malawy is currently detained in the Washington County jail.

“The trauma experienced by survivors of sexual assault and abuse can leave lasting scars that never fully heal,” Raoul said. “It is reprehensible that a community member entrusted with coaching young people would violate the public’s trust in such a heinous way. I will continue to work with local law enforcement to hold such offenders accountable and keep our communities safe.”

The charges stem from an investigation by Raoul’s office and the Nashville Police Department. The Illinois State Police (ISP) assisted with forensics. Malawy is a baseball coach at Nashville Community High School. He has been placed on administrative leave. Officials encourage residents who may have additional information to submit a tip by calling Special Investigator Cloee Frank at 217-843-0347.

“Criminal sexual assault is a heinous and indefensible crime,” said ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly. “ISP crime scene investigators will use every tool available to ensure those perpetrating these crimes are held accountable.”

The public is reminded that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Assistant Attorney General Sarah Holst Schryer is prosecuting the case for Raoul’s office.
