MADIGAN TO HOST FINANCIAL RESOURCE FAIR IN HONOR OF MILITARY CONSUMER PROTECTION DAY
Chicago — Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced her office will host a financial resource fair with the Illinois Joining Forces Financial Literacy Working Group to recognize Military Consumer Protection Day on Wednesday.
Madigan's Military and Veterans Rights Bureau and other advocates who are members of the Illinois Joining Forces Financial Literacy Working Group will be available in the atrium of the James R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph St., Chicago from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday to provide information and answer questions for veterans, service members and their families.
Madigan's Military and Veterans Rights Bureau works to help ensure active duty military service members and veterans receive the benefits they have earned by serving their country. The Bureau is one of several public and nonprofit organizations that make up the Illinois Joining Forces Financial Literacy Working Group and focus on helping service members, veterans and their families navigate the many Illinois-based support services available to them.
"Under the law, veterans and military service members are entitled to certain benefits and legal protections in recognition of their commitment to our country," Madigan said. "It is critical that we work to ensure they receive the full benefits and protections that they have earned for their honorable service."
The fair will offer tips and information about benefits for Illinois veterans, legal rights for Illinois service members, money management, dealing with credit and debt, building savings, protecting personal information, recognizing identity theft and avoiding consumer fraud, including scams that target military members and veterans.
