5/29/08 Desayuno de Esperanza del 2008 de la organización Construyendo con Libros (BwB, siglas en inglés) |

La Procuradora General Lisa Madigan dio el discurso de apertura durante el Desayuno de Esperanza del 2008 en Chicago de la organización Construyendo con Libros (BwB, siglas en inglés). Después de su discurso, Madigan fue reconocida por Jim Ziolkowski, el Presidente y Director Ejecutivo principal del BwB, por el apoyo de Madigan en ayudar a niños de Illinois obtener su capacidad. También se le presentó una foto de una escuela que los voluntarios del BwB construyeron. Antes del fin de este año, los voluntarios van a construir una escuela en Nicaragua y la nombraran en su honor de Madigan. BwB es una organización no lucrativa, nacional e internacional que enlace a adolescentes de áreas urbanas en programas después de la escuela. En los programas, los adolescentes comparten su tiempo trabajando en sus comunidades, aprendan sobre asuntos globales y ayudan construir escuelas en países que se están desarrollando. Actualmente BwB ofrece programas en 21 escuelas secundarias en el área de Chicago.

Jennifer Welch, Policy Director for Attorney General Lisa Madigan, speaks to attendees during a three-day roundtable for the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs (NCAVP) hosted by the Center on Halsted in Chicago. The roundtable included NCAVP's Midwest Regional Training Academy, which featured a curriculum designed to provide the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, LGBT-friendly organizations, service providers and leaders with training that will serve the dual purposes of increasing participant organization's capacity-building proficiency and anti-violence programming knowledge and skill. Center on Halsted is a focal point for the LGBT community of Chicago serving the community's diverse social, recreational, cultural, and social service needs. NCAVP is a coalition of more than 20 LGBT victim advocacy and documentation programs located throughout the United States. |

Attorney General Lisa Madigan delivers the commencement address to the Chicago-Kent College of Law's 2008 graduating class in Chicago. More than 300 students received their Juris Doctor degrees. Earlier, Madigan stands with Harold Krent, Dean of the Law School, prior to the start of the commencement exercises.

Nettie Lasko, Immigrant Assistance Program Coordinator for Attorney General Lisa Madigan, gives out information to visitors during a presentation in Spanish at the Guatemalan Consulate in Chicago. Lasko makes regular presentations to various consulates throughout the Chicago area to provide immigration fraud and consumer fraud information to the community.

Skip Gonsoulin, left, Community Outreach Liaison for Attorney General Lisa Madigan, accepts a 2008 Award of Excellence from Dr. Mildred Harris, president and CEO of God First Ministries. Gonsoulin accepted the award on behalf of Attorney General Madigan during the annual God First Ministries Heavenly Breakfast in Chicago. God First Ministries was founded in Chicago by Dr. Harris and a small group of women working to help the less fortunate. There are affiliate chapters in California, Georgia, Indiana and Ohio. |
