Youth Government Day is a free program of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC). Madigan spoke to nearly 400 high school and junior college students from throughout Illinois interested in exploring careers in government and public service.

This was the association’s 153rd Representative Assembly, which became an affiliate of the National Education Association in 1857. The group has 120,000 members made up of Illinois elementary and secondary teachers, higher education faculty and staff, educational support professionals, retired educators and college students preparing to become teachers.
