Sexual Assault in Illinois


General Statistics

In 2001 there were 5,618 reported incidents of criminal sexual assault in the state. (Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority)

1,195 sexual assaults were perpetrated by family or household members in 2002. (ISP, Crime in Illinois 2002 Annual Uniform Crime Report)

In 2002 ICASA centers served 10,407 adolescent and child survivors of sexual assault, child sexual abuse and sexual harassment as well as 3,243 significant others. This was a 3.7% increase from 2001. (Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault)

8,688 anonymous contacts were serviced by ICASA agencies in 2002, 5% more than in 2001. (Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault)

Illinois’ rate of forcible rape is 45 rapes per 100,000 people, which is significantly higher than the national average of 33 reported rapes per 100,000 people. (FBI, Uniform Crime Report 2002)
