POSITION: Rural Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Leader

DIVISION: Crime Victims Services, Statewide Victim Assistance Program

LOCATION: Adams, Brown, Hancock, McDonough and Schuyler Counties

SALARY: $20,000 - $30,000/year

This is a grant funded position and will end with in 3 years unless additional funding is obtained.

HOURS OF WORK: 20 hours per week.


This position will promote consistent, professional and victim-centered medical forensic treatment of adult/adolescent sexual assault patients in the region including Adams, Brown, Hancock, McDonough and Schuyler Counties. Duties include: develop and implement an on-call program for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs), support initial SANE training activities, coordinate SANE continuing education, evaluate personnel in the SANE on-call program and provide technical assistance for on-call SANEs when needed, develop schedules, maintain supplies and equipment as needed to conduct medical forensic examinations at participating hospitals, perform medical forensic examinations, coordinate and collaborate with Emergency Department staff at treatment hospitals in the five-county region, and maintain records and data for grant reporting. The person will also serve on the Rural Regional Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), attend and actively participate in SART meetings and collaborate with other members of the SART,


Qualified candidates must be a licensed Registered Nurse at the time of application, be knowledgeable about SANE programs, policies and protocols, and be familiar with forensics, crime lab procedures, emergency medical terminology and procedures and victim advocacy. In addition, qualified candidates must either have completed or be willing to complete 40-hour Adult/Adolescent SANE didactic training, and either have completed or be willing to complete Adult/Adolescent SANE clinical training. Travel and the physical ability to file and duplicate information which may include bending, stretching, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs are required.
