POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Housing Policy Advisor

BUREAU SERVED: Consumer Fraud Bureau

LOCATION: 100 W. Randolph Street, Chicago Illinois

MINIMUM STARTING SALARY: Commensurate with experience

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Senior Housing Policy Advisor, the Housing Policy Advisor reviews mortgage-related consumer complaint files with assigned Citizen Advocates to assess the feasibility of OAG home ownership intervention services. The Housing Policy Advisor may also transition cases from Citizens Advocates for direct negotiations with mortgage loan servicing companies. Workout strategies include but are not limited to: repayment agreements, forbearance agreements, loan modifications, partial claims, deeds in lieu of foreclosure, short sales and short payoffs.

The Housing Policy Advisor will identify and research issues affecting home ownership and residential lending practices and engage in outreach and education to local housing counseling agencies, community groups, and government agencies regarding foreclosure intervention services and counseling.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics or any other related discipline, at least two years of experience in housing counseling and/or credit counseling or any equivalent combination of training and experience is required. Lending experience is preferred. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Attendance and the ability to develop and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the general public are essential functions of this position.
