Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Criminal Trials Bureau seeks an experienced criminal prosecutor for an Assistant Attorney General position in the Springfield office. Prosecutors working in this Bureau have wide-ranging duties including: investigation and prosecution of all Illinois criminal offenses and proceedings. Duties include handling motion hearings and trial work, managing extensive discovery, presenting and cross examining lay and expert witnesses; working with the Department of Corrections and the Department of Human Services in various capacities. Assistant Attorneys General are responsible for all phases of the case, from investigation and grand jury presentation, through trial and post-trial motions. Additional duties will include assisting the Sexually Violent Persons Bureau civilly commit sex offenders (SVP cases).
Qualified candidates will have significant criminal prosecution and trial experience, including experience prosecuting felony crimes, knowledge of mental health issues and ability to manage complex cases. The candidate should have at least 5-7 years of criminal prosecution experience that includes felony trials and experience dealing with expert testimony. Travel is required. The candidate must be licensed by the State of Illinois at the time of application.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, the salary starts at $57,000.
